Nuns' Empowerment

An important extension of SmD core activities is the selective financial support of the Tibetan Women's Association (TWA), which regularly offers empowerment courses for nuns in the form of seven-day workshops. The nuns learn to become more self-reliant and to create a more confident self-image. This supplementary training is of great importance, because in the strongly male-dominated monastic world, nuns often behave very subserviently. His Holiness the Dalai Lama is intensely committed to the development of more equal rights between the sexes. Such courses are held yearly in Dharamsala and are carried out at a high professional adult education level (as an example, see the course report 2019). SmD representatives are most welcome as guests. The participants are recruited from different nunneries.
